Nature Studies and Awareness
Workshop / Gathering
April 8/9/10, 2005

This weekend gathering was all about awareness and how everything is connected. Various exercises were used to teach and demonstrate awareness and concentric rings.

To make the learning fun and co-operative, three teams were made for the exercises.

Each Team made their own Tracking Box
to learn about the "Wisdom of the Marks".

They were instructed to rope it off to protect the area.

This Team chose the Vegetable Garden as their Tracking Box.

For one of our exercises, we made special
tracking shoes with spikes in them to lay down
3 different trails. Each Team followed their assigned
trail and were asked to work together as a Tracking Team.

Here we see the Barefoot Team at work.

Working together and getting a close-up look was helpful.

On a heavy blanket of leaves, the tracks were really hard to see.

The weather was fabulous so we had lunch on the patio. To keep
everyone's awareness peaked, 2 clothes pins were given to everyone
to pin on someone without their knowing. It was great fun!

Cory, from Peter Wiinholt's Group, designed an Aging
Tracks Program which was used for several exercises.

The Teams were sent out to find a track and study it.
This is one of the Tracks that was studied.

Here's a cool Track frozen in time.

The Group was given some free time Saturday
Afternoon. Some practiced a little lance fighting.

While others practiced with the swinging log.

On Sunday morning, Kathy spent some time
talking to the Group about how everything is Linked.

Lunch was spend in silence on the deck. The exercise was to be
done in wide angle vision to soak in everything that was going on.

Another exercise had the group tracking with
their noses. An onion was used to blaze a trail and
each group had to sniff out their trail.

While waiting for homebound transportation to arrive, the Group
spent some time playing the co-operative version of the Bone Game.

Our weekend went by so fast! The weather was simply fantastic which made the skills and exercises really easy to enjoy. The cool thing about the weekend was the fact that most of the things we did were new. We had not done any of the skills or exercises at any other gathering so they were fresh and exciting for everyone to participate in. What a great gathering! Till next time!
